Long before campaign posters carried his name, Oriyomi Hamzat had already earned something politicians spend fortunes chasing: the trust of ordinary people. For years, his voice has traveled across Oyo State every morning through Agidigbo FM, reaching farmers in Iseyin, traders in Bodija, artisans in Ogbomoso, and civil servants in Ibadan. That daily conversation with the grassroots is not a footnote to his candidacy for the 2027 governorship. It is the foundation of it.

A Platform Built on Listening

Radio, done well, is an act of listening as much as speaking. Through his programmes, Hamzat has spent years absorbing the unfiltered grievances of Oyo residents: the flooded roads, the school fees that break family budgets, the hospital bills that arrive at the worst moments, the young graduates with no jobs. Most politicians pay consultants to tell them what the people want. Hamzat already knows, because the people have been telling him directly, live and on air, for years. That intimacy with real problems is the rarest qualification in Nigerian politics.

Accountability as a Daily Habit

Agidigbo FM became more than entertainment; under Hamzat’s influence it became a forum where the powerful were questioned and the powerless were amplified. He turned the microphone into a tool of accountability, pressing officials on stalled projects and giving voice to citizens who had nowhere else to turn. A leader who built his reputation on demanding answers from those in power is unlikely to hide from scrutiny once he holds it. That instinct for transparency is exactly what Oyo’s government has too often lacked.

Bridging the Distance Between Government and Governed

One of the deepest failures of Nigerian governance is the wall between officials and the people they serve. Hamzat’s entire career has been about tearing that wall down. He speaks the language of the street, understands the rhythms of the market, and treats the concerns of the poor as urgent rather than inconvenient. A governor who already commands that trust can mobilise citizens behind reforms, communicate directly in a crisis, and govern with a legitimacy that no amount of advertising can buy.

Communication Is Governance

Governance is not only about building roads and balancing budgets; it is about carrying the public along, explaining hard choices, and rallying a state toward common goals. Here Hamzat has an almost unfair advantage. He can reach millions in their own homes, in their own dialect, without a press release or a spin doctor. In an age when misinformation spreads faster than truth, a governor who is a trusted, familiar voice can steady a state through difficulty in a way that a distant technocrat never could.

The Youth See Themselves in Him

Oyo State is young, restless, and hungry for representation that feels authentic. In Hamzat, many young people see someone who rose through hustle and grit rather than dynastic privilege, someone who understands their aspirations because he shares their origins. His media reach gives him a natural bond with a generation that consumes information differently and demands leaders who are present, responsive, and real. That connection could translate into the kind of civic energy Oyo needs to break old patterns of apathy.

A Candidate the People Already Know

Elections are often a gamble on strangers who reveal their true character only after they win. With Oriyomi Hamzat, the people of Oyo are not gambling on a stranger. They have heard him, tested him, argued with him, and watched him champion their causes for years. That track record of proximity, accountability, and service is why so many now believe he is the right choice for governor in 2027, a leader whose greatest credential is that Oyo already knows his voice, and trusts it.
